Welcome!

Hello! My name is Kelley, and I have been blessed to have the most special cat in my life. He is a rescue cat from Jamaica Plains, MA...and came into my life while I was a grad student at Harvard.

Really Monkey....Really...

I, George, am throwing out a question to you all...

ARE BEST FRIENDS SUPPOSED TO BE THIS ANNOYING?!

Don't get me wrong, having Monkey around has really helped my exercise plan and definitely made me a stronger man, but MY GOODNESS this cat never STOPS!

1. He keeps touching my back paws while I am relaxing. So when he walks around me, I hit him.
2. He keeps scratching on my scratchy box and post. So when he does, I hit him.
3. He keeps running around the apartment like a crazed maniac...and that dang bell on his collar is driving me batty! So to try to stop him, once I have just had it, I chase him down, and hit him.
4. He follows me every where!!  When mom goes potty in the morning, that is MY sacred time with her to trip her as she brushes her teeth. Well, he likes to come in now too...and I am NOT ok with that! So when he creeps the door open, I hit him.

....Now I am all worked up! I need to go lie down, and mom is taking a nappie, so I am gonna go cuddle with her.

***

Ok. A little better now.  Monkey tried to come in and jump in the bed with us. I hit him, and he walked out.  WILL HE EVER LEARN?!

Ugh, o well.  My Chelsea loves him, and mom seems to get along with him, so I figured, I will work on it too.  He is definitely not growing on me right now, and its more like he is getting under my skin, but hey, I am his big brother...and I guess that that is what little brothers are supposed to do...irritate the crap out of me.

OH, but I must say, Mom just LOVES seeing this side of me.  I get treats when I stand up for myself...and I was hoping to get double treats when I literally scared the poo out of Monkey...but alas, no treats.

Ok. I think I am gonna try to steal a bite of Monkey's food while he eats mine!

MONKEY IS MAKING PROGRESS!

WHAT AN AWESOME DAY WE ARE HAVING!!! My almost friend Monkey is making sooo much progress :) We will be snuggle buddies soon--i can just feel it!

Last night I slept by Chelsea's door where Monkey is.  I want him to feel safe, and know that I am there for him.  I like to whisper things to him to let him know that I am there, and that the people here are so good.

And when we got up this morning, mom and chelsea got out the treats!  I was a bit of a show-off when they opened the door so that Monkey could see how cool I was!  I showed him how we can sit for treats or lie down for treats...and how to work them for extra treats!  Monkey did a great job with his first lesson from me!  He was milking it for all it was worth!  He even ate out of Chelsea's hand.

But of course, he is still a little nervous when I get too close.  But it was so fun!!!

And then, before mommy left for work, we had some more all roommate bonding time!  And boy is Monkey on his way to being a GQ model like me :)  We got close enough to take a picture of him too!

And while mommy was at work, and Chelsea went in to visit him...HE LET HER RUB HIM!!!! AHHHHH!  I AM SO PROUD OF MY ALMOST FRIEND!

And how about this.  Mommy calls herself the mean one when it comes to Monkey.  well guess what? NOT ANY MORE!  MOMMY AND MONKEY HAD A BONDING MOMENT WHEN SHE GOT HOME FROM WORK!!! As I laid outside the door making sure mom was ok, he jumped in her lap when she sat on the floor and then begged her to rub him.  I got sooo excited I let out a MEOW of praise!  I guess he heard this, and came over to the closed door and played paws with me under the door!!!

YAY ALMOST BEST FRIEND MAKING PROGRESS!

But I know that there is still a long way to go and we are gonna go day by day :)

My Almost Best Friend...

MY NEW FRIEND IS HERE!!

problem is, i haven't seen him yet, and i don't think that i will get to meet him for a few days...but I JUST LOVE HIM!

My new friend came last night and has been in my Chelsea's room ever since.  He is super nervous!  Mommy said that he is pissed off and confused...Chelsea says he is a demon kitty...haha! but chelsea doesn't mean it!  they like to go in and check on him every so often, just to make sure he is eating and doing ok.  i like to lay by the door and send him good energies...and to let him know that my people are great!

but i understand.  these are his first days in a new place with new people and a new friend (me)...he has all the right to be upset and super cautious.  at least he isn't screaming and clawing at me like little grouchy one!!!

more updates to come as he days go by! lets pray that Monkey (oh yes, that is his name!!) starts to feel a little more comfortable because  just want to snuggle with him so bad!

Change is Coming in the Morning!

So my time as an only cat has come to a quick and super sudden end!  Tomorrow, my Chelsea is bringing home a new cat named Monkey!  I really hope he isn't scared of me like cousin Sebastian was...or pissed at my living existence like that grouchy little cat was...

Mom said she is a little jealous for me...and that I should feel open to being open with my feelings.  I have no idea what she means by that, and I wish should would just scratch me behind my ear.  But she also said that she is super excited that I get a "guy love" brother / friend to play with all the time now...and that makes me happy!

I mean, I guess I am a little bored with mom at work all the time, and Chelsea doing all of her job hunting.  So it might be kinda fun to have another friend around to play string with or ball with or just snuggle and take a nap with!  I am just hoping that mommy won't be too jealous for me :) And being that she is a cat whisperer, her and monkey will get along just fine, and she can hopefully give him some good words about me for our official meeting (face to face) in a few days :)

Ok adventure...HERE WE GO!!!

Bye Aunt Peppermint

Mommy just got home from being away, and she hasn't stopped crying.  When we got ready for bed, and she was in the shower, I couldn't wait any longer, and burst through the door to ask her what was wrong.  She told me that she had to say goodbye to peppermint.

Mom has had peppermint since she was 6 years old, and they have a special bond.  I love my aunt peppermint, and though she isn't a big fan of me, I know that she still loves me...as long as I remained in at least a 4 state distance from her.

Anyway, Aunt Peppermint has been really sick, and her kidney's shut down, and she lost all her ability to eat, and was slowly losing her ability to walk as well.  At about 3lbs, she wasn't living the quality of life that was even remotely what they wanted for her.  Mom said that she was going home for the weekend, to be with peppermint, and Chelsea took care of me!  Mom got some wonderful snuggle time in with Peppermint, and got to take her on a slow, very slow, walk outside...pep loved her outdoor activity time.  and she was determined to walk the length of the backyard on her own!  and she did :)  Afterwards, mom and pep had some snuggle time, and then mom had to board a bus to come back to NY.  Mom said it was the hardest thing she has ever had to do.  She compared it to leaving me with my Aunt Candi when she left for Moscow... but as if she wasn't coming back from Moscow for me...then I realized just how sad she was.

To Aunt Peppermint, you were, and will always be the most Spoiled, Loved, Perfect cat, and I am honored to be your nephew!  I hope that Cousin Sebastian and I can lead on with your legacy...though we have some HUGE shoes to fill!

Some Favorite Memories of Peppermint:
1. Holding her for the first time.  She was so small, and yet he claws were so sharp as they dug deep into my shoulders...but as a six year old getting her first pet, the pain was just a sign of love...that she never wanted to let me go.
2. One Christmas Eve we had all went to bed excited for Santa to come.  Way into the wee hours of the night we all hear a huge BOOM!  I thought it was Santa dropping off our gifts.  We all ran downstairs to see that Peppermint had climbed up the Christmas tree, and knocked the entire thing over!!
3. Her "love" of my aunt Stuffy :)
4. Laying on my stomach coloring in my coloring book or watching Saturday morning cartoons, as peppermint laid on my back / butt.
5. Being in the car with mom a few hours before we were to pick up Peppermint, getting to choose her name.  I had already picked it out, and was so excited to share it...Peppermint Friskie Green :)
6. Dragging "ugly blanket" ugly blanket around and having her jump on the end of it as I pulled it down the hallway
7. Her "love of my friend Jackie (I know she is throwing her ears back just because I said her name...)
8. Her approval of my friends Lindsay and Amy :)
9. The month I brought George home with me, Peppermint was PISSED!  She followed me around the house hissing and growling at me!
10. Our final snuggle.

Special Prayer for Aunt Peppermint

Mom doesn't know that I am writing thing, but I wanted to ask you all a favor.  Story first.

Mom went home this past weekend, and I got to get some Chelsea time!  I don't like when mom leaves me, but I know that I can snuggle with Chelsea anytime (and lay on her pj pants which make me feel warm and safe).  When mom finally got back, I noticed that she seemed a little sad.  I sat with her, and she told me about how her time home was a very distracted by work...but I could tell that something else was going on.

Mom is worried about my aunt Peppermint.  While home, mom said that Peppermint has gotten super skinny and is being told that she isn't eating much anymore.  But she won't talk much about it.  My aunt Peppermint is 126 years old (18 in people years) and mom is 25...so they have been together for a loooong time...so the thought that no one wants to have is really worrying mom.

So please, could you send some good energies and prayers and purrs to my Aunt Peppermint?  Mom would really appreciate it!

Thank you :)
George

I Wanna Hold Your Hand...

I just wanted to share a sweet little life moment with you all.  George hates when I go to work.  When I am not home, I am not there to rub him or feed him or take naps with him or be his personal kneading object.  So when I have a day off, George tends to take full advantage of the situation.  Tonight while I sat on the couch watching Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice (and even still right now as I type), George laid on the couch with me...and by with me I mean on me...going on 4 hours now...and my legs are now numb...because remember, he is 22 pounds...

But what is more cute (and a little less painful) is that for the majority of the episode of Private Practice, George held my hand...and wouldn't let go, squeezing tighter if I tried to pull away.

My sweet sweet boy.

Sorry We Fell Off the Face of the Earth..

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Merry Christmas!!

Happy New Year!!

Oy--its been a minute since George and I last updated.  But let me just say that it has been quite an eventful couple of months for George and me!  From Holidays to Hospitals...Sleepovers with Chelsea to Sleepless Nights of protecting his peoples...George and I would like to catch you up on the adventures George has endured :)

Meow!  Hi friends!  So I figured I would wake up from my nappie to update you all on my lovely lazy life :)  I swear, mom needs to give me the password to MY blog so that I can update on MY life to MY fans and MY followers...but I digress...

Thanksgiving.  Mom planned to visit my aunt peppermint, the loud lady, and the man with the awesome Cole Hahn shoes.  I was thinking about going with her, but aunt peppermint scares the pee out of me...so I decided to hang out with Chelsea, and then have a little alone time.  But before all of that, we had a bit of a household emergency.

This is what went down.  For about 2 days I stared at the wall.  All day.  All night.  I heard something behind the tv...then I swore I saw it move down the wall...and wherever the sound or blur went, I followed it.  Chelsea and Mom kept laughing at me, telling me I was going senile and / or making them nervous about what I was seeing.  But despite their taunts and their insisting that I was chasing dust bunnies, I didn't budge.  I must defend my family, even if they don't believe me.  Mom went to bed, Chelsea and that boy whom I like to tease were watching a movie, and it happened!  IT CAME OUT!  No, not a dust bunny, not an alien, not a leaf...but a FREAKING MOUSE!  YAY!!  I knew I heard something, and it came out to play with me!  One day mom was watching this thing on tv were people bounced around and threw a small brown thing...and well, the mouse was small and kind of brown...so I decided to play basketball with the mouse!  Well, he didn't bounce as well as the ball on the tv, so I thought I would bring it to mom's pillow...Chelsea though screamed for some reason...I screamed, releasing the non-bouncing mouse, and well...the fun ended.  Nuts.  Mouse left.

But wait, there's more!  The next day, while everyone was at work, mouse came back!!  I guess he wanted to finish our game of basketball.  But after 2 bounces, he didn't move anymore.  I don't know what happened... I nudged him and talked to him, but he wouldn't play anymore.  So I laid by him.  When Chelsea got home, I was praying my mouse's side.  She screamed again (she does that a lot) and told me that mouse deserved a proper burial.  Burial? Apparently that's being put in a plastic bag or two and placed in the trash can.  I took note.

So the next day, while chilling out before waking up mom to feed me, Chelsea was finishing up her homework.  And guess what? ANOTHER FRIEND!!! This one seemed super psyched about playing basketball, so like Michael Jordan...I dribbled, I shot, and I scored!  A couple of bounces, and I threw the mouse into the trashcan!  Dang I'm good.  Chelsea didn't seem as pleased...but liked the fact that she didn't have to do the "burial".  When mom got up she was pumped!  She called me her little protector man!  I have no idea what I did, but I will take the extra treats!

Yup, so that was our pre-Thanksgiving days.  Coming up soon--Christmas, New Years, and a Blizzard!

Love you all :)
